Mark your calendars for the Peace River Film Festival





 

 

The Visual Arts Center has announced the events and dates of its second annual Peace River Film Festival. The festival has grown to four days and runs Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23.

Searchlights will light up the skies above the Charlotte Harbor Event Center in Punta Gorda for the Grand Opening & Hollywood Party, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 20. The first night includes a screening of the winner of the feature films category, followed by a rocking Hollywood Party featuring The Boogie- Men and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 per person. An all-festival pass is $50.

The rest of the festival will be held at Edison College’s Charlotte Campus on Airport Road in Punta Gorda.

The Open Shorts category will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21. Tickets are $10. Last year’s Open Shorts Category winner, “The Barber of Birmingham,” was nominated for a 2012 Academy Award.

Selections of Student Films will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Tickets are $5. The Student Films are defined as short films, less than 30 minutes in length, produced by students in elementary school, high school or college. The prize is sponsored by the Arts & Humanities Council of Charlotte County. A double feature of Feature Films will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Tickets are $15 each.

Cell Shot films, a new category for 2012, will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23. Because anyone with a cell phone can make a movie, this category is for films entirely shot using a cell phone. Tickets are $5. The festival concludes Sunday, Sept. 23 with Florida Shorts at 7 p.m. Tickets to Florida Shorts are $5 each.

The inaugural year of the Peace River Film Festival was a huge success with hundreds of people in attendance, including Michael Uslan, the executive producer of the “The Dark Knight Rises” and the other Batman films. A documentary on the 2011 festival is accessible at peaceriverfilmfestival.org.
