Publix $1,000,000 golf scramble

The second annual Publix $1,000,000 Shootout — a charity golf scramble benefiting Florida Compassion Foundation — is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, at Bobcat Trail Golf Club, 1350 Bobcat Trail, North Port. Team Check-in opens at 6:30 a.m., putting contest starts at 6:45 a.m. and the shootout shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to the public for golfers of all talent levels.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, which offer affordable exposure for interested businesses. Volunteers are also needed for the day of the event.

Pinwheels for Prevention aids child development

Charlotte Behavioral Health Care is taking part in Prevent Child Abuse Florida’s Pinwheels for Prevention campaign by planting a pinwheel garden and distributing information on healthy child development and community services for families. The event will be held at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 6.

The community is invited this free event, and guests are encouraged to wear blue in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Guests may “plant” a pinwheel in the pinwheel garden, which will remain on display during the entire month of April. CHBC and Charlotte County Healthy Start Coalition will be there to distribute information on healthy child and family development. A group photo in the pinwheel garden will take place at 10:15 a.m.For more information, visit www.cbhcfl.org.

St. Vincent golf outing deadline approaching

Golfers, sponsors and donors are needed for the April golf scramble to raise funds for St. Vincent de Paul, Sacred Heart Conference, which provides assistance to needy families and individuals in Charlotte County, including food, clothing, home furnishings and limited financial aid to prevent, for example, eviction or electricity shutoff. The scramble, a handicapped event open to men and women of all golfing ability levels, will be held Saturday, April 8, at St. Andrews South Golf Club, 1901 Deborah Drive, Punta Gorda. Registration deadline is April 3.

Children’s fashion show at Woman’s Club

In its 50th year of helping the Early Head Start Program at the Baker Center, the GFWC Punta Gorda Woman’s Club presented a donation of clothes for children, some of which will be modeled at the annual children’s fashion show at the Woman’s Club’s luncheon at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, at 118 Sullivan St.

The EHS program is for low-income infants, toddlers, pregnant women and their families. EHS programs enhance children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development, assist pregnant women to access comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care, support parents’ efforts to fulfill their parental roles, and help parent move toward self-sufficiency. Power Squadron holds fundraiser

Tickets are on sale now for the Peace River Sail & Power Squadron’s Reverse Raffle Fundraiser. Doors open for the drawing at 5:30 p.m. for the 7:15 p.m. raffle on Friday, April 7, Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center, 75 Taylor St., Punta Gorda. Only 300 tickets will be sold for a grand prize $1,000, plus more cash and prizes. You don’t have to be present to win. Tickets are $50, which includes a raffle ticket and dinner. Fundraiser for suicide prevention

On Friday, April 7, the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce is working with the Fred Lang Foundation to host a fun fundraiser to ensure a suicide prevention program is made available to all high schools in the county. The BoogieMen will strut their stuff at the pre- Blues, Brews and BBQ opener, starting at 6 p.m. on Taylor Street in front of the old historic courthouse in downtown Punta Gorda, with beer, food and wine for sale.

Admission is free, so bring a chair and some cash to have a cold one or two, enjoy music and dance the night away until 9:30 p.m. All monies raised will go toward this important cause in our community. For further event information, call 639-3720 during office hours.

Habitat hosts golf classic

Charlotte County Habitat’s fourth annual Charity Golf Classic is a fourperson scramble beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Port Charlotte Golf Club, 22400 Gleneagles Terrace. Cost is $80 per person or $320 per team, which includes greens fees, cart, continental breakfast and lunch. Registration deadline is April 1.
