Florida Rep to hold auditions for area non-union and EMC actors

Florida Repertory Theatre will hold auditions for non-union and EMC performers local to Fort Myers and Southwest Florida. Auditions are scheduled to take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26, and from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 27, in the theater’s new rehearsal and administrative complex at 1415 Hendry St, in the Fort Myers River District.

Auditioning performers should see the casting call page on the theater’s website to sign up for a five-minute appointment (www.floridarep.org/about-florida-rep/casting-calls).

Local non-union and EMC performers will be considered for open roles and understudy opportunities in the theater’s newly announced 2022-2023 season, as well as roles in the 2023 PlayLab Festival scheduled for next spring.

Florida Repertory Theatre is a fully professional theater company that employs members of Actors’ Equity Association and members of its Ensemble of Artists, but each season is able to cast a select number of roles from its Acting Intern Company as well as the local community of artists. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the theater hasn’t held a local audition since the summer of 2019.

“We are excited to spend two days auditioning performers from our community and the wider Southwest Florida region,” said Artistic Director Greg Longenhagen. “Florida Rep is known for working with our ensemble members and frequent guest artists from around the state, the country, and New York City, but we know we’re part of a thriving community of talented, working local artists.”

Mr. Longenhagen continued, “local auditions give us a chance to reacquaint ourselves with the actors working on our area stages as we look to fill select roles and hire understudies for our professional season. Of course, we are proud to be on contract with Actors’ Equity, but we do have opportunities to cast non-union and Equity Membership Candidates each season and we look forward to seeing those performers’ work on June 26 and 27.”

Auditioning performers should prepare two brief monologues or one monologue and one song, if they plan to sing. An accompanist will be provided. Performers should visit the Casting Call page in the About Us section at the theatre’s website to sign up for an audition timeslot at www.floridarep.org/about-florida-rep/casting-calls.

Auditions are held in Florida Rep’s rehearsal hall at 1415 Bay St., Fort Myers, on the southeast corner of Hendry and Bay streets. Free parking is available for auditioning performers. Auditioning performers should follow posted directions to the courtyard entrance.

COVID Safety Notice: Florida Repertory Theatre is a fully vaccinated workplace, and all performers must be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines in order to work at Florida Rep. Proof of vaccination IS NOT required to audition.

The theater asks performers to follow any posted COVID safety guidelines, not to come to the theater if they are feeling ill, and to remain masked while inside the building. Performers may remove their masks while auditioning. ¦
