Blood drive held at bank

OneBlood Inc. is holding a blood drive from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the North Port office of Charlotte State Bank & Trust, 4300 Aidan Lane. All donors will receive a voucher for a free movie ticket and a wellness checkup including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count and cholesterol screening. Blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and ay be made online at www.oneblooddonor.org using the sponsor code #37571. CERT course offered

Charlotte County Emergency Management is offering the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team basic training course. This course is designed for anyone who is interested in gaining skills and knowledge to help make their communities prepared and resilient when an incident occurs.

CERT is a volunteer program that educates people about disaster preparedness. Topics include hazards that can impact a community, basic disaster response skills, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. After completing training requirements, CERT members will have the skills and knowledge to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an emergency event.

This three-day course is held on Saturdays beginning Feb. 23, and is free. All classes will be held at the Heritage Oak Park Community Center, 19520 Heritage Oak Blvd., Port Charlotte. Habitat for Humanity has women’s info mixer

Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity is planning a 2019 Women Build. Whether your preference or expertise is fundraising, team building or wearing a tool belt, your help is needed. If you are interested in learning more about how you can be involved, join the information mixer at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Harbor Nissan, 4336 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte. FSW announces open house

Florida SouthWestern State College will host its Spring 2019 Open House week at all campuses Feb. 19-21. Prospective students, their families and the community are invited to attend. Faculty, staff and FSW students will be available to answer questions about academic programs, student support services, financial aid, study abroad, honors programs and campus life. Attendees will also receive a promo code to apply to FSW for free and will be entered to win a scholarship. The Charlotte Campus open house will be from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at FSW 26300 Airport Road, Punta Gorda.
