FJTs raise donations for Meals on Wheels

The Fresh Jersey Tomatoes — a group of women originally from New Jersey, now residing in Charlotte County, who continue to give back to their community — turned last month’s meeting into an opportunity to pay it forward. The group donned holiday Santa hats and reindeer antlers to celebrate Christmas in July at River City Grill in Punt Gorda by organizing a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County.

“We were so happy to present Debbie Chow, director of marketing, with $1,000 in gift cards and cash donations to support this wonderful organization,” said Nanette Leonard, founder of the FJTs.

Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County (www.mowofcc.org) is a 501(c) nonprofit organization that has been serving the Charlotte County community since 1969. Each day, approximately 150 meals are cooked, packaged and delivered from their facility.

Founded in 2015 and starting with only 10 members, the Fresh Jersey Tomatoes now boasts a membership of more than 300. The organization has raised food during the pandemic for families in Charlotte County, has also held a food drive for the Homeless Coalition and organized a humanitarian aid relief effort for Ukraine. The FJT’s seventh annual Holiday Toy Drive will benefit the Charlotte Behavioral Healthcare in December. ¦
