CDBIA announces award winners

Last month, the Charlotte-DeSoto Building Industry Association Awards Committee announced the following winners of the annual builder, subcontractor, associate and member of the year awards:

¦ Builder of the Year: Ron Oskey, president of Harbor Home Builders. He specializes in new residential homes and builds new homes in Charlotte County and North Port. He is one of the top builders in the city of Punta Gorda. Harbor Home Builders has been in the SWFL Parade of Homes each year, and has been very supportive of the CDBIA.

¦ Young Building Professionals: Elizabeth Lombardo, The Firm Advertising Agency. She joined the CDBIA this year and chaired the organization’s Homes for the Holidays-Babcock Ranch Parade of Homes, a new event created this year. Ms. Lombardo has also sponsored new members and supported many of the CDBIA events.

¦ Sub-Contractor of the Year: Gregory and Krystal Allen, Patriot Plumbing Corp. Mr. Allen first joined the CDBIA back in 2005 and has been the plumbing contractor for many large projects in Charlotte County. This year, Ms. Allen chaired the CDBIA’s Young Building Professional group, which has been able to help give a voice to the next generation of contractors in our community.

Associate of the Year: Harbor Nissan. Kelley Baxter and Lee Titchworth have helped many of the CDBIA members save up to $7,000 on vehicles through an association discount. Last year, the company also helped the CDBIA family retain members and gave the keys to a 2019 Nissan Murano to a new member who renewed a membership. To date, Harbor Nissan has saved CDBIA members more than $500,000 with the purchase of vehicles.

¦ Member of the Year: Benny Mills, Top Quality Remodeling. He is a dedicated member of the CDBIA, stepping up where needed. He has chaired the Sporting Clay Classic and the MSBIA v CDBIA Gulf Coast Shootout, making these events larger than in years past. Mr. Mills joined the CDBIA board and has been an asset to the association.

¦ President’s Award: Blair McVety, Coastal Marine Supply.

¦ Top Spike: Bob Miller, Boyette & Miller Construction and Development.

¦ Circle of Excellence Award: Total Recon Cleaning Services. This is presented to a CDBIA associate member for doing a high percentage of business with CDBIA members and utilizing the benefits of their membership from CDBIA, Florida Home Builders Association and National Association of Home Builders, and sharing information about the CDBIA on social media.

¦ E. Jay Carlson Award: Odette Embury, Drummond Mortgage. Given in memory of Jay Carlson, who dedicated his life to the building industry. Ms. Embury joined the CDBIA more than 30 years ago and has stepped up to lead whenever she was needed. She currently serves on the FHBA Associate/ Trades Council and took on the leadership position of being the chair of the SWFL Parade of Homes.
